Fight School

Your chance to be a Viking! Meet your Viking warrior, make kit for battle, learn the skills of sword fighting and handle weapons and armour.

National Archaeology Week
12th – 20th July
Kids (up to age 16 when accompanied by a full-paying adult) go free at DIG and Barley Hall all week. Pre-booking is required for visits to DIG (01904 615505).
Finds Identification
Have mystery objects that you've unearthed in the garden identified between 11.00am – 3.00pm at Barley Hall on 17th July and at DIG on 19th July. At DIG have a go at Victorian games and handle finds from the big dig at Hungate.

Medieval Summer Schools

Join the residents of Barley Hall for our Saturday summer schools. Fancy fighting like a Knight (26th July), playing the Fool (9th August), or being a Squire for the day (23rd August)? Exciting, action-packed days where you will learn some new skills too!

Little Treasures

DIG, 11.00am – 3.00pm, Join in for free!
Do you have a favourite toy or treasure with a story to tell? Children are invited to bring along a special object, describe its history and write a finds label, just like archaeologists. Objects can be left for selection for our special exhibition running throughout September. There will also be a chance to see objects from Victorian York that would have been part of a Victorian childhood.
