Chat with real archaeologists from the York Archaeological
Trust to learn all about the latest excavation and research
techniques and handle genuine finds discovered in and
around the city. Have a go at craft activities inspired

Launch The Great JORVIK Balloon
Release Coppergate Square

See a cloud of colourful balloons launched on their
voyage into the unknown. The creators of the most famous
animated Viking in the world, Noggin the Nog, will be
on hand to help, along with the Lord Mayor of York.
Look out for a special appearance by Thor Nogson, who
will be sending the army of young Vikings on their journey
across the city!

to Valhalla Rowntree Park pavilion

Join this family event to build your very own miniature
longship with the help of Viking
poet Adrinskald, then launch your candlelit boat with
its cargo of poetry and power-words on its voyage into
the unknown as darkness falls. Participants will also
get a chance to try their hand at a variety of other
Viking crafts, including dyeing, Viking food and rune
stones. Come in Viking dress for the full experience.

The JORVIK Viking Festival is very proud to present
two giants of children's television, Peter Firmin
and Oliver Postgate, who join the Festival in 2007
to introduce this very special screening of some of
Noggin the Nog's finest moments. The partnership responsible
for creating such
timeless classics as the Clangers, Ivor the Engine
and Bagpuss will be bringing Noggin, Nogbad, Graculus
and many other well-loved characters to life at York's
City Screen. There will be stories told about their
work - (it's not widely known that Peter Firmin made
Olly Beak and Basil Brush!) - and the chance to ask
them questions, or even just to say 'thank you' to
these two visionary programme-makers for their wonderful
