The Trials of the Vikings

As Vikings invade from around the world, join the
roughest and toughest as the Festival launches the
competition to find the Viking Strong Man 2007 at
our trial of strength. Look out for one-to-one combat
and lifting the maiden, and cheer on your favourite.
Staff from Next Generation will be getting the Vikings
in peak form with advice on training and diet. Throughout
the day would-be Vikings can be transformed into Berserkers,
with expert make-up and costumes. Get a photographic
record of your battle scars! Small charge for Viking
make-up.

and a bit scratchy. Visit the barn where the Pingwings

their home and meet the magic Plant who told them such
strange and intriguing stories. Then leap forward into
colour and see one of the greatest films made by Oliver
Postgate and Peter Firmin of Smallfilms: The Saga of
Noggin and the Ice Dragon.

Andrew 'Bone' Jones
Come and find out how archaeologists discovered Viking
Age excrement in excavations in York. This informal
talk will also show how ancient filth can provide a
host of insights into the most intimate details of everyday
life 1000 years ago. The whole talk will be translated
using sign language for deaf and hard of hearing people,
and there will also be tactile handling for visitors

with the warriors of Regia Anglorum. Be transported
back into the time of the Vikings in a dramatic recreation
of the Battle of Stainmore and Erik's final journey
to Valhalla, Odin's Hall of the Slain for brave warriors.
