Travel 1000 years in just one day…
Your journey starts here! A visit to the world famous JORVIK Viking Centre guarantees an exciting day out for any group. The attraction opens the door on life in the Viking city of ‘Jorvik’ in AD975, as you travel through a reconstruction of the actual Viking-Age streets, exactly where archaeologists found their original remains.
See wood-turning, metalworking, a fish market and the street market of Coppergate (the cup makers), complete with sounds and smells! Get face-to-face with our expert Viking residents as they do traditional Viking crafting and give talks on Viking weaponry and battle tactics.

Fearsome Craftsmen
Groups are taken into the world of the crafters and artisans of the Viking Age,
with demonstrations and hands-on exhibits. Groups will meet JORVIK’s resident
Vikings and sample the atmosphere of a typical Viking workshop.

Artefacts Alive!
See over 800 artefacts magically brought to life by talking Viking ghosts, with
multi-media installations exploring the 40,000 excavated artefacts from the
Coppergate dig in more depth.

Cemetery of Secrets
By popular demand, discover the skeletal remains of a beheaded Roman prisoner
and theorise with the experts of York Archaeological Trust as to what really
happened when he died. Work out your own solution to this archaeological mystery
– as seen on BBC2's Timewatch: 'Mystery of the Headless Romans'.
As a special incentive for groups, JORVIK offers a guaranteed entry time with pre-booking, so you can plan your day in York and take in all this vibrant city has to offer.
